Kira's character is the embodiment of chaos and bewilderment. Kira and the rest of the characters in TSIASOS are not like this. Ender brings justice two different races by showing humans what they are and their strengths. Muad'Dib and Leto II set humanity on a path of vitality and away from stagnation. They see humanity for what it is and shape it with their will and desires. The characters in these books have real moral dilemmas and there actions, as well as their insights, shape the world around them. This can be seen in the Science Fiction gospels of Orson Scott Card and Frank Herbert. Science Fiction is, at its core, a statement about human nature. However, science fiction is another game and the same rules don't apply. Still, a very solid fantasy story for a first telling. The world building in the Inheritance Cycle is very strong, though not without flaws. I am a fan of Paolinis and grew up reading Eragon. If you disagree strongly with any of these this review probably wont make you happy. I have read my entire life and so have very strong opinions on many different book series. Let me first establish some other rankings so you know whether or not my opinion is valid. This is boring and uninspired and if you're looking to read some good science fiction, I would strongly suggest that you take your money somewhere else. I don't know what on earth has driven some of the critics to praise this novel. There's absolutely nothing fresh, unique or interesting in the premise and nothing at all that rouses your interest in an incredibly over-crowded and overdone market of ideas. What has he brought to the table that's any different? The novel literally draws upon EVERY TROPE science fiction/space opera has relied on for decades now. There's about a million other stories such as this about humanity colonising the stars and coming into conflict with an alien race. I respect some certain features of the story, such as the world-building and the reimagining of the future with the introduction of some really interesting tech, but the central premise is just so tired, worn out, and overdone. If he could trim the list of characters, shave away some of the uninteresting, boring parts of the story and confine the story within an area of interest, that could have worked. It's about 500 pages longer than it needs to be. An absolute chore to get through for the most part. Unfortunately, this book still is a giant bore. The only positive thing about this book that I can personally say, is that at least it isn't completely derived and borrowed off another one like the Eragon books were. It's a long, bloated, boring novel that makes me regret paying money for it. To Sleep in a Sea is absolutely no improvement from his earlier works. They just ripped off the Star Wars movies beat by beat. His Eragon books were uninspired, long, boring, and most importantly - completely derivative. Christopher Paolini is just a bad author.
